MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to all youngsters between 8 and 18 years of age. The youngster must register annually with the League by having a legally responsible guardian fill out the SCCYSL Registration Forms. Annual general membership dues will be $100.00 for 2023 and are due by the end of January of each year or at the time of membership. Additional children in the same family are each $90.00 per year. If you only want to participate in the Trap Shooting program, annual dues are $35.00 per child.
Dues may be paid in three increments beginning in October if the family desires. We will turn no child away for inability to pay the annual dues. General membership allows the youngster to participate in all shooting sessions, attend an NRA Firearms Safety course, participate in the Winchester/NRA Smallbore Rifle, Pistol, High Power Rifle and Shotgun Qualification Shooting Programs and receive periodic newsletters. The SCCYSL is a fully volunteer organization. None of our volunteers receive compensation of any sort. Membership funds are used to defray the actual costs of the shooting sessions and to purchase required shooting and safety equipment.
The most efficient way to become involved in the SCCYSL is to come to a shooting session and see if the League meets your expectations. Parents/Guardians are required to sign a "Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk ..." form which is available at the Atglen Sportsmen's Clubhouse. Shooting sessions for small bore rifle and pistol are Monday evenings between 6:30 and 8:00 PM at the Atglen Sportsmen’s Club. The venues of shotgun and high power rifle sessions are announced.
Most youngsters begin in our Small Bore Rifle Shooting program. On the youngster’s first .22 rifle shooting session, we will have one of our National Rifle Association Certified Rifle Instructors or United States Shooting Association Rifle Coaches present a 45 minute "Orientation and Safety" session to both the youngster and parent(s). This insures that the new shooter learns the range safety rules as well as proper gun handling and shooting techniques. We would appreciate it if you would inform us by an email to [email protected] telling us when you would like to attending your orientation session. This is so we can make sure that we have an adequate number of instructors present to allow for the first night’s one-on-one training. We provide the use of rifles, all .22 caliber rimfire ammunition and safety equipment at no additional charge. We have trained over 1600 youngsters over the last 23 years in the safe and responsible use of firearms.
The SCCYSL has small bore rifle, pistol, high power rifle and shotgun programs. All youngsters are eligible for the small bore rifle program. The high power rifle program is limited to youngsters who have shown significant proficiency in rifle shooting with the SCCYSL and participation is by invitation. Likewise, the shotgun and pistol programs are for youngsters who have shown shooting proficiency and participation is by invitation. Please contact us by email for more information on the high power rifle, pistol and shotgun programs.
